The March publication date plus the Christmas tree dates the photo around early January, 1967.

starting to do a little bit of research into my hometown's hidden comics history as preparation for writing about our homegrown comic book company, the late, lamented, Tragedy Strikes Press. Finding some images from the Guelph Mercury newspaper archives, housed at the Guelph Public Library. This is a great photo of a comic swap organized by the Guelph Public Library in 1976. It was a Wednesday! Most of the comics here appear to be coverless, and I think I can see a Superboy comic in the top pile on the table. In his 1954 book lambasting the comic book industry, psychologist Fredric Wertham called gatherings of comic book readers "Hooky Clubs" and a breeding ground for juvenile delinquency. I myself was a member of a neighbourhood group of boys in the late-70s and one of our regular actiivities was trading comics. My brother and I definitely looked just like these ruffians here.
