Bendis Is Bringing Superman’s Most-Hated Movie Villain to Comics
When writer extraordinaire launches his new Superman comic, he will be bringing along a familiar face — just not exactly the one you may want to see. During his takeover of DC’s Instagram account, the scribe revealed that he would be bringing perhaps the most despised Superman movie villain, ever, to the comic book page: the Nuclear Man.
The writer confirmed that the Superman IV: The Quest for Peace villain would finally be making the jump from the screen to comics after more than 30 years thanks to a dare. “People started challenging me to put him in my run,” Bendis wrote in the caption that accompanied a stunning piece of art featuring the Superman villain, as drawn by Ivan Reis. “Challenge accepted.”

The Nuclear Man was the main villain of the Christopher Reeve-starring Superman IV. He was created by Lex Luthor, who fused Superman’s DNA to a nuclear missile that exploded in the sun. This in turn led to the creation of the villain, who was powered by solar energy and who had many superpowers such as super-strength and electrical discharges.
The villain received a less-than-stellar reception from fans, who were left disappointed by both the lackluster villain and the film itself. Perhaps now, Bendis can finally give the Nuclear Man his proper due, and make him a true force to be reckoned with.
The character is set to appear in Superman #2, which is most likely to get a whole lot of attention thanks to this announcement.

Superman #2, written by Bendis and with art by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado, will hit store shelves August 8.
