Don't be a dolt. This has nothing to do with having "thick skin." This has to do with your persistent negative commentary about things that others find enjoyable. It's about you being a dick, and has nothing to do with the sensitivity of others. You're being an , and being an about what other people enjoy, without provocation, makes you a dick. And do you know what being an AND a dick means you can do to yourself...? Is this 20 years of frustration boiling over? Because you know I was just like this when we "met"; I thought you'd be more accustomed to it by now. Maybe it has been silently bugging you all these years? I don't know. I do know I have thick skin, so I'll chose not to be offended by your post. Carry on. Nope. I was under the mistaken impression all these years that, while you were outspoken and opinionated, you weren't an unreasonable person. I am incredibly disappointed to find out that that's not only not the case, it apparently has never been the case. It is not reasonable to post, over and over and over again, without provocation, that what other people like and collect is stupid, regardless of your personal opinion about it.

Price variants aren't even on my "list" of things about this hobby that bother me. It's not like they were manufactured to BE chased, like the cover variants and incentives and what not. It's just something that happened during the '70s, and people wanted to start chasing them. While some of the asking prices can get silly, I think they're more "honest", especially when stacked up against brand new comics with 10 different covers.

I agree that they aren't "manufactured collectibles" as we use the term today. Doesn't change IMO the stupidity of paying hundreds of dollars more for a book with a 5 instead of a 0. At least with today's variants you get a new cover. Tell the world!

The difference between a "5" and a "0" isn't the point.
I know this will fall on deaf ears, but the reason they are sought after isn't because of the minor cosmetic difference, but because they are a unique part of comics history, when the biggest comics publisher was doing something totally different that hadn't been done before.
The fact that they are a different price, the fact that they were only released in a few markets nationwide, the fact that they were printed in minuscule numbers, and the fact that they were essentially unknown in general in the comics world for decades, all combine to make it an interesting chapter in comics history.
I would never pay thousands of dollars for little figurines...or hundreds of thousands of dollars for disposable cards with sports figures and statistics printed on them...but that doesn't mean they're stupid, or people who pay those prices should be called stupid.
Why is this even a conversation on a COMIC BOOK MESSAGE BOARD...??

The difference between a "5" and a "0" isn't the point. Says you. Very convenient how you left out the overwhelming reason people buy these not you, I know, your motives are pure research. I'm not a milquetoast, sorry. Because you're insecure and have a screaming case of the butthurts so you feel the need to over-defend every aspect of your collecting/selling habits? And nean.

The difference between a "5" and a "0" isn't the point. Says you. Very convenient how you left out the overwhelming reason people buy these not you, I know, your motives are pure research. My motives don't matter, whether they are pure or not (in your estimation.) My motives have NEVER been "pure research", nor have I EVER said otherwise. What do you imagine is the "overwhelming reason people buy these "...? Investment? Speculation? They want to collect them? Some combination of all three? And what the hell do motives have to do with these being a neat part of comics history? I JUST explained to you, and anyone else paying attention, that that's WHY they're sought after and valuable. An 1809 large cent? No biggie, $20, $30, $50. An 1809 large cent that was owned by Abraham Lincoln, from the year of his birth...? Now there's some history there. If you assume assume ill motives with everyone who disagrees with you, I can't imagine how difficult life must be. RRRRRRIGHT. It COULDN'T POSSIBLY be because you're a bitter who has to go around making sure everyone knows how much he hates something, ting all over places where such opinions aren't welcome. I'm sorry, WHO is the insecure one in this scenario....? The proof is in this thread, Stu. The answer to my rhetorical question is that this is a COMIC BOOK MESSAGE BOARD. People who collect comics are ALREADY thought of as "weird" by the general populace. That someone who claims to like comics would come along and mock people for what THEY like...regardless of their motives, whether they are "pure" according to you or not...is pathetically laughable.

Ookey dookey Yes, yes, EVERYONE gets how blindingly clever you are. I don't know how ANYONE in your life puts up with the unfathomable depths of your wit and charm. Now, don't you have some girl scouts to call stupid for selling peanut butter cookies...? Run along, I wouldn't want to spoil your "fun."

FFS
I don't want to get involved but honestly, Stu, your immaturity is at an all time high. Pun intended.
OS isn't the easiest person to get along with, but all he posted was, what I think is an actual cool little tidbit about price variants. You got beef, take it to PM or a loving phone call or something.

You haven't been around long, you should've seen me 17 years ago when CGC started up. You think I'm opinionated now... You think it's cool, I think it's stupid. Both opinions are equal/valid. Please don't ever stop posting your opinions!
