Spider-Man because he was (at the beginning anyway) just a regular kid with regular everyday problems who got thrown into circumstances beyond his control.
Some of those early stories (both Ditko and Romita eras) really illustrated that. I remember that one issue that ends with Peter Parker with a sprained arm bemoaning that his enemies are still out there and Aunt May is sick. What is he going to do?

In a similar vein, who does everyone think is the greatest animal character from any era/genre ? Hey, just bumping this because I still think a super powered animal fits closely within the topic. My first thought would be Lockjaw, although we know he's probably an Inhuman changed to a giant dog after exposure to the Terrigen Mists. Streaky and Superhorse were interesting during their early period in DC, with Superhorse of course once being human. Sebastian from Sabrina was also once human. Does anyone consider Howard The Duck an animal? Still curious what animal 'heros' y'all might enjoy or consider "greatest". |

I have to go with Batman! With no strength or super powers, he is highly intelligent, has cool villains, awesome car&plane&copter&motorcycle&cave&gadgets, etc.
