"Flip" probably isn't the perfect term, but it's catchy so I'll go with it. I you see a graded comic book sale that failed miserably...put it here.

linkAmazing Spider man # 429 CGC Graded 9.4 Not PGX CBCS !!! NO RESERVE !!! Revenue$10.50 ExpensesShipping: Did he lose money using Priority and only charging $8? Grading Fees: CGC Modern Tier: $18.00 CGC Handling Fee: $5.00 Tax: ? Insurance: ? Shipping to and from CGC: ? Ebay Fee (10%): $1.05 PayPal Fee (2.9%) $0.30 Expenses Subtotal: $24.35 I figure he probably skipped insurance all around. Total guess, but his minimum shipping cost to and from CGC, even with other books, had to come to what....maybe $5? Net Income (Pro Forma) Total Revenue: $10.50 Total Expenses: $29.35 ___________________ Total Net Loss: $18.85 (not including "?" above)

Not a big deal for $50+ transactions, but $10 ones can hurt. Insurance up to $50 (and $100 via eBay's Top Rated Seller program) is free from the USPS. Dealers get 20% off their CGC grading. Some pass that along to customers. That brings the potential down to $14.40. Shipping to and from CGC is dicey. I just add $5 to each book, all in. I just sold a Fatale #15 9.8 SS for $50...and lost about $2-$5 for the privilege. Sigh.

By the by...auctioning things on eBay is the guaranteed way to sell for next to nothing, now. eBay has succeeded in completely gutting their auction market.

High demand books still work if they're done correctly. But regular stuff no longer yields anywhere close to value. On the other hand, it's probably a great time to be an auction buyer.

It has been for years. Those foolish enough to list via auction have given away some sweet deals. It also shows how thin the market really is.

The census is littered with them. Do they just have money to burn? I would imagine so. I'm amazed it sold for that much. Those are quarter books. But hey, I'm published in #393, so maybe it was that that drove it so high!
