Yes but did you click on it to see who was saying what? It's even better now.

Well looking into the real possibility of putting Mortimer down.
Before I left he went for a few days being extremely tense and unable to move around much. We thought perhaps he had food poisoning. Yesterday the better half got home to him acting the same way. Xrays later show his vertebrae in some areas aren't formed properly. Curious why it took so long to affect him, he's a year and a half old now.
Waiting to hear back from a specialist today, really hoping surgery might be able to do something, but if not, I cannot allow something I love to live like this. It's tearing me up inside, considering I haven't been able to see him in almost a month.

Turns out he has 4 malformed vertebrae, one is smaller than normal, three are triangular in shape instead of rectangular.
Now, they've been explicit that this is "normal", ie, seen quite often, and the dogs can live normal lives, albeit, they need pain medication here and there when things flare up. He is currently doing quite well on the medication for pain mediation. His status is affecting him, but not severe enough to denote surgery for correction. I imagine they are dismissing surgery for two reasons, one being that complications could arise and the problem isn't resolved anyways, and two, cost.
He's going to have to live out his days being careful, needing medication and constant supervision, attention. Which I cannot obviously give him. After a lengthy discussion, we've decided that adoption is his best option for a happy life. He's going to have to go to an elderly couple or someone who is home all the time, without pets or kids that are overly active. He is pretty sedentary as it is, he was always lazy, but he is going to have to be careful on how he plays and interacts with people.
We just aren't able to be there enough hours of the day to make sure he gets the attention he needs. Bosley has already dealt with friends coming and going, so I don't think this will affect him overly much, but I have decided that we are not going to have another companion for some time. Already having to put a beautiful cat down, and now this, I have to give having another companion a miss for some years.
Hopefully we can resolve this situation in the next few weeks. Meantime, I am going to be working and unable to lend much support. Life can get pretty sucky from time to time.

A somewhat bittersweet ending, but I'm glad Mortimer will be able to carry on. Don't completely rule out another companion animal as your emotions are swaying that decision currently. Pets do need caring and nurturing, but they give back so much in return. Hope you're doing ok.

The debate on morty is still in session. Having spent time with him, you can't tell he has issues. The better half doesn't like the idea of letting him go. I have a really hard time doing things she doesn't want to do. So a wait and see approach is how it's going to go. Who knows, we could get lucky and the next ten years are filled with morty being the same jerk we know and love
