So I've worked about 19 days straight and have the night off, finally.

If you think the oil industry doesn't abuse their privilege, take this into consideration.

According to the Queens Printer, under Employment Standards Code Chapter E-9, part 2, division 3, states :

 Days of rest

19(1) Every employer must allow each employee at least

(a) one day of rest in each work week,

(b) 2 consecutive days of rest in each period of 2 consecutive work weeks,

(c) 3 consecutive days of rest in each period of 3 consecutive work weeks, or

(d) 4 consecutive days of rest in each period of 4 consecutive work weeks.

(2) Every employer must allow each employee at least 4 consecutive days of rest after each 24 consecutive work days.

Which has been expressed to us as, 6 and 1, 12 and 2, 18 and 3, and 24 and 4. Since I've worked between 18 and 24 days straight, I am entitled to no less than 3 consecutive days off. I'm getting one.

In the 11+ years I've been in the industry, it's standard practice to basically work us for as long as they feel, and give us breaks when they feel we need it. Generally after certain tasks are completed as to follow a schedule of work.

Now here is the kicker, when I was brought on to site, my boss had explicitly stated that the plant manager made it mandatory that no worker was allowed to work no more than 12 consecutive days without having two days off, and the only way to make an exception would be with his consent. Basically, he personally, would make an exception, and none else.

So people, laws are for people who are too poor to not give a .

Being in camp sucks enough, but this is my second night being stuck in camp while sick. I got sick 2 weeks ago and took a night off, yesterday I literally couldn't haul my ass out of bed, tonight I am resting and making damn sure I kick this cold or whatever it is. Being told we've got another 6 weeks to go yet, I'm not going to feel like this the whole time.
