So I got my Boston sub back, a lot sooner than expected. It's great. I am really digging the new cases. I don't understand the complaints about newton rings though. Every single one I have gotten back has them. No waves or anything like that, but every single one has newton rings, at varying degrees.
Cases are nice and strong, ergonomic and great clarity. I'm not a huge fan of the new label, but any of CGC's labels looks better than CBCS IMO.

So after being drunk for about 6 months straight, I've decided to get back in shape. It's been my first week (YAY) and I've set goals for myself... 1) To run 2.5 kms in 10mins or under. Current best is 14:47 2) To do 20 pushups in a row. Current best 15 3) To do 5 pullups in a row, unassisted. Current best : Using 80lbs of assist 10 reps. 0 no assist 4) To tread water for 2 mins, then swim 100 m. Have not set foot in the pool yet 5) To do 20 situps in a row. Current best is on decline 15 Now for weights, I've started at beginners rates and will update. I've already gone up a few pounds for some exercises while going down for others Bicep curl free weights 60lbs. Current 35 Machine assist 100. Current 60 Tricep curl free weights 80lbs. Current 35 Machine assist 100. Current 80 Shoulder press free 60. Current 35. Machine assist 100. Current 80 Chest press machine 150. Current 80. Chest press free. No goal yet. I am not a big fan of bench press, but going to get into it. Plus seems everyone thinks this and deadlift is the only strength exercises to do at the gym and haven't even seen what the equipment looks like yet. So far my routine is pretty basic. Original plan was to go in 6 days, do a run around the track to hit my goal of 2.5kms, sit down at the machines or free weights and do upper body. Some days the better half wants to go after shes done work, so I'll go and sit on a bike for a half hour those days. Missed the last two days, was pretty sore. Just on my way out the door now as we speak. I've been alternating times to get to the gym to see when heavy/light times are. So far haven't found a nice medium where there are less people than I would like there. I could swear the people who live close (Its a rec center) are mostly bored housewives and they congregate here to hang out all day. Then there are the seniors who you know definitely know they have nothing better to do. It's not all that bad in the mornings, but aggravating when you are trying to do laps on a skinny three lane course.

Good luck with the work outs. I've been lifting since I was something like 9 years old and my brother's father in-law gave me an old cement weight set. I've had my own free weights and equipment ever since. I've had gym memberships off and on throughout my life, but I can usually do a workout at home in the time it takes to drive to the gym and back. I love the convenience of a home gym. The trade-off is space.

You know that muscle at the top of your inner ankle that connects into the middle of your calf? That is freaking killing me I've always had bad ankles, never did skate properly. Going to have to really work on my foot endurance. I know I'd be getting better times if it wasn't for this muscle group being shocked so much. I spent the majority of the last 10 years going up and down stairs and not really running straight lines, so it's no surprise the stabilizers for the area are a bit weak

The trade-off is space. We've got a pretty good collection of free weights, a treadmill and a stationary bike in the basement, but you said it, space isn't all that great. I'll head down there once and awhile to just fool around and do a few sets, but for a real workout, I find the rec center more motivating. Which is hilarious considering how much I hate other people However, I tend to push myself harder. I think it's the very fact I am out of my comfort zone that does it.

oh and thanks. I've given myself to push myself hard by 5 months. I remember the days when I could bike for hours straight, walk anywhere in the city, work like a mule for 12 hours straight. Everyone says you slow down as you age, but I believe that you are only as weak as you think you are. I might not get back to that level, but I honestly don't see why I shouldn't be near it.

Get a 2x4 or something to put your toes on, load up a bar with moderate weight and do slow reps. Stop if anything hurts and decrease weight.
