Our "Slab"
Our comic book protector (slab) is made of high-quality PVC, and it is thinner and lighter in weight than other slabs. But what really protects your comic is that each comic is placed inside a Mylar™ bag, and then secured inside the slab for the ultimate in protection.
Our slab is tamper and fraud-proof. The only way to get the comic out is to cut the slab.
Our slab is different.
Our slabs aren't like the other slabs. Our slab is lighter, easily stackable, and virtually unbreakable. Our slab is a "light weight clamshell", and since it is lighter in weight, it won't shatter if you drop it.
The comic is sealed in a Mylar™ bag, and the top of the bag is secured to the bottom piece of the clamshell with acid-free tape. The bottom of the comic is not secured with tape, so that there is minimal stress on the comic.
The slab is then spot-heat sealed by hand in several key points, to provide security, but allowing you to easily open the slab if you want to remove the comic. If you open the slab, you can not reseal it. The grading label can not be removed without destroying the slab.
The dimensions of our slab are 8.25" wide by 13" long, just 1/4" slimmer than the other slabs. So, our slabs will fit in most Graded Comic Book Boxes for long term storage. You should store our slabs vertically, but they can be stored horizontally.

CBGC has developed a proprietary comic book grading system with over 550 separate grading characteristics, covering over 20 grading categories.
Our system ensures that the comics we grade truly represent the grade that is assigned to them - and not just an opinion.
When your shipment of comics arrive at our office, the contents are compared and verified against your online submission. Once they have been graded, they are placed in a Mylar™ comic book bag and then encapsulated in our acid-free encapsulation clamshell.
CBGC uses the industry standard .5 to 10.0 grading scale, and we only verify and grade non-restored comics. Comics that arrive with restoration will be returned to the sender as ungraded, and no grading fee will be charged (shipping fees apply). Click here for more information on our slab

Our graders enter over 25 comic grading details into the system, and the system uses a grading formula to calculate the grade. We don't take the "human-aspect" out of grading, we just use our system to ensure that the grading is consistent and accurate. Our system doesn't have an ego.
Your "slab" isn't as thick as the other slabs - what gives?
Our customer designed case is designed to protect the comic, while providing a nice display for you to showcase your comic. We insert your comic in a Mylar™ bag and then it is encased in a .55 mil thick PVC shell. The Mylar™ protects the comic, while our case protects the Mylar™. Our case is also tamper-evident and tamper-proof - unlike the other slabs which can easily be cracked open, allowing someone to replace the comic with a lower grade and then re-seal the slab. You can't open our slab without damaging it beyond repair.
