So steveinthecity Let's debate some. I already made my case for Peter Jackson's LOR movies being an improvement from the narrative of the Tolkien's works. I stand by Die Hard being better than "Nothing Lasts Forever." What about Jaws? What about To Kill a Mockingbird? Does Gregory Peck's portrayal of Atticus Finch outdo Harper Lee's written character and make the movie better than the book?

I’m not much of a movie person, but I’ll try to participate as books/films are brought up by yourself or others. Jaws is too far back for me to recall much detail either way, and with To Kill A Mockingbird I don’t believe I ever saw the movie. For the record, while I’ll read most anything, my tastes in movies are rather low-brow. Stuff like the Friday trilogy or some Ben Stiller silliness.

Red (the one abt the dog not the spy one) and thick as thieves were 2 movies that followed the book pretty much exactly-dialogue and everything. very rare. Paper Moon also did this, but the book had about twice as much antics as the movie. Also homefront followed the book closely and so did a simple plan, but the book thing went even way more sideways than the movie-there was just too much that happened to go into a film. Thick as thieves (the 1999 movie with alec baldwin not the 2009 one) the movie was better than the book-they added scenes that clarified the characters-I was so impressed by this that I sent a letter to one of the screenwriters asking him about this but never got a reply.
