I wonder why they locked it. Thread is now gone altogether. So someone tries to warn us about someone and CGC deletes the thread for some reason. Great. That's super helpful.

That thread. Cringe-worthy, juvenile, embarrassing, unfunny...so many adjectives to choose from.

We did get so many memorable moments throughout that thread and finally topped off with “Don’t yell ‘fire’ in a crowded fire when there is no fire”.

I am surprised that it lasted as long as it did to be honest. Nothing good would come out of that once I looked at what was alluded to.

Reopened but points were already awarded. So... now it becomes a question as to whether or not it becomes the first double locked thread garnering a double negative for the originator and who the next three people will be to get points out of it. Personally there was a part of me that was hoping that there would be a message like with what once happened (Was it Arch?) where the mod wrote, "This thread has run its course" and was locked allowing the mod to be considered for points.

I would recommend that you don't do that. I think the game veterans would get upset because that's effectively a brand new rule that could alter points dramatically based on the capricious nature of whatever boardie-volunteer is sitting in the moderation seat for that hour. Years ago, the mods didn't reopen locked threads unless there was a huge public outcry to get them reopened. So game threads stayed locked. I can't remember Andy ever having to deal with it (could be wrong, but I don't think so). So, since the mods are acting nutty nowadays and are locking/unlocking/locking threads, I think you only have two options: 1) Be at the mercy of the mods in perpetuity. If they open a thread back up a year later you have to remove the points. (This seems crazy and undoable.) 2) Act as a gatekeeper. When you are available, if the thread is still locked, you record the points and it's a done deal that can't be reversed. The act of recording the points is a game event, and that particular thread is no longer eligible to the game. (This would be my recommendation.) If you disagree and want to do the double/triple/quadruple/etc. points thing, I would recommend you check with some of the previous point leaders to see what they think. Bring some body armor.

#2 it is... because #1 would be impossible to track. It also reduced the influence the mods have on the game, which is a good thing. Although I was on the phone with "Jaybuck" this afternoon and this came up... We both laughed at the though of what would have happened if watercooler threads were counted AND if a thread was locked and reopened for it to regenerate points. CGCMod2 would be at the bottom of the scale for the number of times the coronavirus thread was locked. I was sure at one point it was a mod or Arch who had commented on one of Cals threads that, "This is not craigslist missed connections", or "This thread has run its course", locking and getting the last post in. However, I am guessing they did not make the tally board.
