I think I'm gonna be sad I think it's today, yeah The girl that's driving me mad Is going away Perfect example of playing behind the beat. I love Ringo...don't care what others say. That's understandable. He was the third best drummer in the band.

I am neither qualified nor motivated to speculate on what kind of drummer Ringo was or how proficient he was. I would simply say that Ringo gave the Beatles music exactly what it needed in a drummer. No more, no less. Whether that's good or bad I leave to others to decide.

That's pretty much what they say about Keith Richards, and I tend to agree...kind of a minimalist, but fits the band perfectly. OT I watched the latest Rush documentary 'Time Stand Still' and Peart said something along the lines of, "If I played like Charlie Watts I'm sure I could play until I was 80."

It's almost as if people want Ringo to be John Bonham or Keith Moon or Neil Peart, which is absurd because he wasn't that kind of drummer and the Beatles music didn't need the kind of drummer who could bang the bajeezus out of a kit or play with virtuoso precision. They needed exactly what they had. I'm more impressed by the fact that Keith Richards is still alive, than his ability as a guitarist.

Exactly. What's funny, is back in '62 when he first joined the band, he was considered one of the best rock drummers around. Rock changed rapidly after that, and changed emphasis.

I have to agree that drummers are there for a reason... to keep the beat. Anything else is superfluous. One of my friends used to be a drummer. Not a very good one but he played in a few bands. One of his guitarists used to say "he's not the best drummer in the world but he's a great timekeeper".
