It's difficult to find the scavenger hunt icons in this thread. They just blend right in

Makes me wonder if CGC lets any high dollar books graded using WalkThrough service get through QC looking like the ones shown above? I hope not. I plan to submit one soon. I'll let you know how it goes. Anybody have thoughts on how safe the compressed-air removal method is for your books or case integrity? It's safer than creasing the comic by shoving foreign objects into the case. But the newton rings are just going to come right back with time (if not immediately) no matter what you do. It's a poor design.

I know CGC says the NR phenomenon is normal, but NR mixed with SCS seems quite unacceptable.

I know CGC says the NR phenomenon is normal, but NR mixed with SCS seems quite unacceptable. They've stated that they will continually work to reduce newton rings, but that's just rhetoric. To be honest, there's nothing they CAN do to improve the current holder because of its poor design. They shoved a core (old style design) into a pressurized holder (creep engine case) to solve the wave damage problem. It wasn't designed for this modification. This is why I call it the Frankenholder. They need to start from scratch and develop a NEW holder with the elimination of shaken comic syndrome and newton rings as design criteria. But they're not going to do this unless they are forced to. The best thing we can do is educate the masses about these two issues, and encourage them to stop accepting an inferior product. It's starting to work - I see people waking up, and it's discussed quite frequently now in the social media comic book groups. There will eventually be a tipping point...I just can't predict when that will occur.

Just seeing those books make me not want to submit any books to them. I can't believe they send that out to their customers and expect them to accept such bad work. I've been fortunate to not have any severe NR on my last two submissions, but I don't think I want to take my chances with them. I don't plan on using CBCS either. I just don't care for their labels too much and resale isn't on par with CGC prices.

The best thing about the comic book community is the super high level of intelligence.

With all the bad press they'er getting about Newton Rings, you'd think they would try to correct the problem. I don't mind it too much as long as it's a small amount, but how many reholders will they have to do before they decide to change the case?

I can't wait to see increase in cracked cases due to trying to use that suction cup to remove the Newton Rings from their books, but then again it may actually work.

I stopped posting examples in this thread a long time ago because it was becoming a full-time job and I don't have time for that. But here's an example I ran across today just to show you that CGC hasn't fixed the problem (or any of their other case issues). Big surprise. linkIf you want hundreds more examples, just read the Facebook comic groups, or look on eBay...they're everywhere.

CGC will no longer reholder a book for newton ring issues unless you are the one who submitted it. link
