I’m hoping someone can argue for another number, even if it’s a 2 or 3-for that includes a GA book.
In my experience, people don't like to argue on the internet.

eBay has too much authority over these person to person transactions imo, but I wouldn’t know how to remedy the problem unless everyone were to use alternative platforms(wayfair, mercari, etc,).

I agree, #181 - by sheer coincidence only (as opposed to the obvious #2's for example) happens to be a "key" in several different major series across both Marvel and DC.

Unlike "#2" which is often a very popular book because it usually includes an origin story or introduces a new important character, etc - there's no reason for "#181" to be an important book, but randomly across three long-running series it is a key issue.

What are the odds!??

Was wondering what were the more coveted issues, assuming one can separate the desire for a particular book from its current fmv.  I’m assuming if you polled a group of hobbyists what their “grail” book was you’d get multiple answers, but certainly some like IH #181 would show up on several lists, and including Batman #181 makes that a pretty strong contender for most desired issue number.  I don’t imagine Daredevil #181 tops too many lists, but again makes #181 a strong contender.

edit: You may have already found the winner among the post-1960 comics.

Also Sunday I stopped at a comics-only garage sale. Went through about 10 or so boxes of various goodies, picked out $75 worth of stuff and got a promise of new boxes in a couple weeks and if I wanted to drive about an hour east, about 100 more apparently. The guy is a part time seller who is paring down his inventory.

Oh, and he had a comic press he was looking to sell - according to him, it heats up, but he's never used it!  :makepoint:

Also got a call from a local junk shop, not the Junk Shop that I always refer to in here :cloud9: .

This one I don't really frequent because the owner has a pricing model that I would generously call randomized. Anyway, his mom keeps a book of names and numbers and their areas of interest and she called me yesterday (I probably left my number 8-10 years ago), with some new in stock old comics so I stopped by when I was near there earlier today.

I think a non-comic person must be pricing these for them. Forget FMV and me being a cheapskate. I'm talking maybe it's NM pricing for all and no grading being done. There's just absolutely no way otherwise. I left empty handed and if they call again I don't see myself going back.    (puke)

Did a little scrounging this weekend, nothing too exciting. Yesterday, I stopped at a shop called the Land of Oohs and Aahs but there weren't very many comics to speak of as it is a toy, game, action figure, etc., etc. type shop. There was a wide variety of that kind of stuff, plus more. Not really any interest on my part in any of that stuff. I did manage to find about 15 issues of Mad Magazine there that I bought only because they had their subscription covers still attached (pretty neat), plus a few comics - I can't resist the black bag Superman 75 issue for $3! I'm not made of stone!

I went to Hot Flips local comic show on Saturday, spent an enjoyable couple-few hours perusing the wares of a number of local dealers. Ended up with about 40 copper/modern issues, mostly post-2000 newsies, my personal wheelhouse. Also picked up a harder to find Dave Stevens indy, plus some discounted bags and boards from Charles and Jeff at Hot Flips! Show was saturated with nice books from all eras, I just am not in the market for anything in particular right now.

This morning I hit the flea early, but it was sparsely populated by sellers due to impending rain. I did see an early bird scoop up five longs from a seller before anyone had a chance to go through them, looked like $400 passed hands for five longs total but I could be mistaken. Buyer was a friendly guy I've seen around in the past so good for him. Didn't see anything for myself elsewhere.

So, I tried to make it a comic buying weekend, but not quite there yet.

Saturday morning I went to a pop up outdoor comic convention at none other than Big Apple Con impresario Mike Carbonaro's home in Forest Hills, Queens NY!

Manic, energetic, enthusiastic, spastic, he's all of that and more - if you've ever met him you can't forget him!

I bought a handful of high grade magazines from the 70s, including a Deadly Hands of Kung Fu annual, three Vampirellas, Unknown Worlds of Science Fiction 1, Hell-Rider 2 from Skywald, plus a few modern newsies and a Brit edition of Race for the Moon a squarebound annual of sorts with a cool Kirby cover!

Skipped the sales this morning and played 9 holes at Bethpage this afternoon. I love retired life. One day I will quit working too!

Back in the swing of things after a two week break. Hit the local flea last weekend and bought a handful of paperbacks and a couple comics. Also cruised a garage sale that advertised comics, they should have put them in the recycle pile instead!

Today I hit up the Junk Shop. The comics were stale leftovers from my last visit so I was digging through some magazine piles. Found some coolness - a Savage Sword of Conan issue with a nice Norem cover; Spacemen Magazine, a Warren publication from the early sixties; couple other men's magazines; Heavy Metal Havoc special issue with a Richard Corben cover; a Red Circle Fly comic with a Steranko cover (kinda mediocre to be honest, but he's a legend and it was $.35); and the find of the day, tucked down in a pile of nonsense - a great looking copy of the Illustrated History of Heidi Saha! Quite a find for $3!

Couple garage sales advertising comics tomorrow morning, depends on if I can wake up early or not!
