Does using digital codes degrade the book for grading purposes?
Ben Lilley I can't help myself I'm afraid, but seems very silly to me if it does. It should be based on the condition of the comic alone.

Michael Thompson It does. I'm sure I read .2 deduction on higher grades.

Ben Lilley It should be based on the condition of the comic. That's what people care about and value. 90% of people wouldn't use the download. And it in itself is worth maybe a pound or two where as a deduction of even 0.2 could affect the price by 50x as much.

Michael Thompson It has to make some difference though. If you had 2 otherwise identical 9.8s next to each other, one with and one without, I'm certain that every single person would choose the one with if paying the same money.

James Burney
James Burney Just a question. Does a graded comic have the digital code visible? If not you'd need to get the comic out to get the code so dropping the price as it's no longer in it's little plastic prison.
Not a collector of them but phone cards has a similar issue. Unused are worth more but once they expire there's no way of telling if it has been used or not. So if the code expires...

Michael Thompson The code expiring isn't relevant to the grade. To reveal the code, you have to pull a little sticky tab. That tab is what would cause the difference in grade.

Ben Lilley That makes more sense. I didn't realise there was a tab to pull.

Dave McNeill They shouldn't put a soddinf sticker over it. They should just poly the comics instead

Tobias Highfield OK. As an imparital onlooker of this conversation, if I saw a graded book (code unused) and it went for £100... I'd have no problem paying that for the same book, same grade with code used. Just me though.

Tom Smith I haven't used any but do keep getting tempted because I don't read the comic I usually save the comic and buy trade to read.
