Grading Accuracy & PrecisionX-Men #101Universal 8.0 -> SS 7.0 -> Complain -> SS 8.0 X-Men #100Universal 9.2 -> SS 8.0 -> Complain -> SS 9.0 If there were no market premium on graded books, this service would be deemed completely worthless. Let's get real boys and girls, this is the ONLY reason grading companies still exist. It's the hobby's dirty little secret. Might as well throw a dart. *I'll eventually move this thread to the Grading & Restoration area.

Does this not realise what a can of worms he is opening? Or does he and he's playing dumb?

Would CGC have done this 5 years ago, pre-CBCS? I wonder.

Does this not realise what a can of worms he is opening? Or does he and he's playing dumb? Would CGC have done this 5 years ago, pre-CBCS? I wonder. He seems like a pretty nice guy to me. I've seen his videos. He's pretty typical of the modern collector: been in the slab game for a couple of years and has a small business flipping books, goes to cons to get sigs on books to sell because it's an easy way to make a couple bucks. The guys he mentions with two first names is Bradley Bradley, who is omnipresent on the Facebook forums handing out free re-grades and re-holders to those who complain. The tactic works...most people have kind words to say about CGC customer service. No one really cares that the whole thing is a scam or that CGC quality control is crap, because everyone is making money off the scam. The question isn't whether CGC would have done this pre-CBCS, the question is whether CGC would be doing this without high-visibility social media forums where they can't delete conversations when they get out of control. The answer is no (as any 'seasoned veteran' of the CGC forum can tell you). They learned their lesson with the creep engine holder. Crazy world eh? My question is, how long will this house of cards stand before a wind comes and blows it all down? Common sense says that dartboard grading like this can't stand the test of time - it's not a sustainable product/service.

This is so up.
I do not like this grade, I'll take it to "Comic Court" (copyright pending). What a pile of crap.

Common sense says paying double...or triple, or quadruple, or more...for a 9.8, over a 9.6, when the difference in actual physical preservation is next to nothing, and sometimes even nothing, is stupid. That's the madness this has created. If the market would grow up and stop paying these lunatic prices on such a regular basis, it wouldn't be that big an issue.

So basically, CGC would not stand behind their convictions on the new grade, and caved to consumer pressure/complaints, maybe in hopes of not getting any bad press?

Resto check is just about all I need from a grader anymore.

They give away grades to avoid controversy. Normally, when this happens the controversy goes dark; but this guy chose to share his experience. CGC precision is +/- 1 grade on their best day. They grade so many books each day that they can only spend a few seconds on each one. Add in loose/tight periods and their precision can be +/- 2 or 3 grades. Normally, no one would pay for a service that has this large of a standard deviation (it's effectively useless as a tool)...unless you factor in the market premium. Collectors have the dumb.

Resto check is just about all I need from a grader anymore. Resto check is not exactly a strong point for them either... Just a couple of examples. 1) 2) CGC Trimming Detection Problems

With so much money involved with these books, you'd think they would pay more attention to color touched books. Imagine a person buying that 4.0 Universal and then adding another signature to that book and then finding out it comes back with as Restored. I'd be pissed.
