I think it's just sellers hoping niche collectors of romance or the DC 100 Pagers will open up their purse strings for one of these. It's one of the harder to find Bronze books, not counting price variants, or Undergrounds, etc. There's 73 on the census with 36 of those falling into 7.0 - 8.5 range, highest being 9.4. I haven't seen one on HA in recent memory, but a couple have sold on the CGC boards for $400 - $600 more or less. There's nothing particularly interesting (at least to me) about the creators involved with the stories. It's that sort of bland, generic art style and recycled story themes that were common in 60's & 70's Romance comics. Here's a Mort Drucker page (published in b&w, the rest in color):

It is, unfortunately, part of the 100 page set, as you mention Steve, and sellers think that's enough to overprice the hell out of it.
I can't wait for the next crash.

I was surprised to see sellers asking so much for that book. I knew the book is "rarer" but the prices weren't that high. I notice one of the seller has multiple low grade CGC copies available for purchase.

The Hellboys are probably the most convincing, but looking at all the others, I think that just means he found an easy character to fake. The "M. Turner" piece looks lightboxed, the "Romitas" are not convincing at all, and the "Stan Lees" must be where it all began

And in the end, the seller still has an active account. #ebaysucks

I hope ebay tries to do something about the forgeries that are on their site, but I can't imagine them being proactive about it. I'd imagine the guys falling for the scams are probably the same people that can't tell the difference between a VG book and one in VF.

Gosh, I'd really like that Firestorm book, but I've been saving my pennies to buy this - eBay link It's $3K, but it's free shipping. Graded on June 6. 1 of 2 on census.

I assume these sales probably didn't go the way the seller expected them to go. GCG 9.8 graded books selling for less than cover price on one of the books.

This might be at least part of the 'problem'

I'm not even going to pretend I see the "miscute" here, but rare? Only known copy? $1000?

If asked he'd probably say, "I can't say with any certainty where any others are."
