You had me at "interesting" and lost me at "rope". Did you know 3 strand rope is stronger than 4 strand rope? Isn't that interesting? It was interesting because looking at the loose uneven rope you'd bet money it wasn't done or was done incorrectly. But when the guide let go of the one end it literally snapped into place as it contracted onto/into itself and >BAM< you've got rope ready to go. Who the hell figured that out? Now, let me tell you about my chaperone trip with my other son to the Connecticut Science Center today. Lots more interesting stuff, did you know that... I did not know that. Actually, that is quite interesting
When you say chaperone, are you chaperoning just your son or several kids?

I thought maybe because you live on an island with a strong maritime history you might be into sailing And three strand rope is stronger than four because four strand kinda boxes up and leaves too many air pockets. Three strands wrap around each better/closer and have less air pockets. As for chaperoning, it depends on how many chaperones there are but it's at least two kids (my son and friend). Sometimes there are three kids which is ok, but four kids is too much And you know, I learned something today: actress Hedley Lamarr created and had the patent on what we now know as Bluetooth and to some extent WiFi. That's a bit of an oversimplification but not really.

I learnt to do a few clever things with the rope when mooring up. An old boatman watched me wrapping the rope round the mooring post, tying multiple knots, trying to make it very secure. He came over and said "Son, just do this...". He showed me a simple clove hitch manoeuvre and that was all I needed.

It was interesting. At the end, the rope looks loose and uneven, but he lets one end go and the rope "snaps" into place. That device is actually the portable rope maker they brought on ships. The Cordage company behind us is the real rope mill. The building is 250 ft long but the working mills back in the day were 1,000 ft long. I figured the tension would do that. I wonder if they used the portable device on ships to repair ropes - reweave two rope segments together, remove worn areas, etc.

You'll be able to sue her!"

It always cracks me up when Slim Pickens rides up and says "What in the wide, wide world of sports is a-goin' on here?" I laugh at it every time.

If you've been watching the latest season of Black Mirror, you'll know all about this. 2 Miley Cyrus songs from Episode 3. The first one is total pop, but pretty good for what it is. Not my cup of tea, but whatever. The second one is the best thing Miley's ever done (IMO). She has a great voice for this (surprisingly). It's a cover of NiN's "Head Like ."

I've never heard either song before, or for that matter, the Black Mirror TV series. The first song I liked for maybe the first thirty seconds or so before I grew tired of it. The NiN cover was pretty interesting and while not veering too far from the original, I thought Miley put her own stamp on the song. I do like her voice, but just don't appreciate much of what's on the Hit Parade. Every so often a tune will grab my attention. From five or six years back I liked Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty", Katy Perry(w/2Chainz) "Dark Horse", and that "Harlem Shuffle" song I thought was pretty cool. I'm otherwise out of the loop when it comes to most current artists. Anyone into Devo might like their NiN cover:

My mandatory two week vacation is up and I'm ready to rock. Crank it up! (Cause it's a crappy recording).
