Looks like Siggy brought HW back around. 😀 I guess so? Did I use the correct combination of the same words, placed in precisely the right order I wonder? Didn't he start this very same thread when he first showed up? Do you think "Hollywood1892" knows that slabs are NOT better protection than a proper bag and board, and that just being in a slab can (and does) damage books...? Doubt it. Puddling, edge indentations from the inner well, edge dents from the inserts...all sorts of problems happen inside of slabs, because no one's been able to figure out how to make a tamper-resistant slab that doesn't also mean exposing the book to hard surfaces and edges. When and if someone does...then let's talk.

When and if someone does...then let's talk. Not referring to anyone in particular, but I think there's a large number of people who believe the slab is the end point for comics preservation. I don't see the grading companies sending that message necessarily, but it seems to be a default belief of some in the hobby.

Looks like Siggy brought HW back around. 😀 I'd be fine if Hollywood wanted to post over here. We might even get him interested in comics! Good lord, just stick an ice pick in my brain right now. I'd rather someone apparently uninformed, misguided, or spreading incorrect info to post and have that stuff out in the open so there's a chance of correcting, informing, educating, etc. I prefer to give someone enough rope and let them decide whether or not to hang themselves.

I answered his question #2 the other day. I'm sure he saw it before it was deleted.
"2. Would a raw comic be in the same shape one, two or twenty years later? With the same effortless comfort a slab provides."

@getmarwood @organicsquishee defiant1Hey guys, Is this the post you were looking for? linkIf so, it wasn't deleted or moved by me or Moderation. It's been sitting there the whole time. Not trying to stir things up...but it seemed like there was some confusion about the post's whereabouts.

If that is the post in question, then the words "I suspect" are NOT tantamount...as Marwood & I has claimed...to an "accusation." It is the expression of a suspicion, and not an accusation.

www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/318828-how-much-of-a-premium-are-we-talking-for-newsstand-issues-vs-direct-editions/?do=findComment&comment=10908637There. They unlocked the thread, I got to say what I felt I needed to say, and all is right with the world. The funny thing...and I suppose I was guilty of this too...is that these kids come along and think they can assess situations, especially involving social dynamics, regarding people they don't know, have no clue about, have never interacted with, and have only seen on the surface for a short period of time. THAT is hubris. Who do these people think they are? And why do they always think they're Columbus, the first to discover or describe these things? People like this have been around forever; and yet these kids think they can stroll right in and give their opinions about social dynamics that have taken years to build, and that THEY are the first ones to do so...? Puh. Leaze. "Oh, THANK YOU for telling me what you think I'm doing wrong! I wouldn't have had a CLUE if you hadn't come and told me your opinions about things! My savior!" God forgive me if I was ever this brash, young, and arrogant to think that I could walk into a long established social situation and start offering my ignorant "opinions" about it.

I wonder if he'll make the connections? Do they do this often? Lock, open, lock, open? Are posts being deleted, or are these locks just being used as "time-outs"?

They've unlocked threads before, but I don't see why this one was locked...unless I put on my tinfoil hat and say there's a mod with an ax to grind, waiting for the "right post" to lock to prevent responses, and then someone else comes along and says "uh..no." But I don't know why this was locked, and I don't know why it was unlocked.
